American Murder: Gabby Petito
Limited Series | Netflix | 2025
In August 2021, the disappearance and murder of 22-year-old Gabby Petito captured national attention. Gabby and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, were traveling across the U.S., sharing their “van life” journey on social media. But behind the curated posts was a much different story—one that ended in tragedy and raised serious questions about abuse, accountability, and how these stories unfold in the digital age.
American Murders: Gabby Petito examines the events leading up to Gabby’s death and the investigation that followed, offering a deeper look into the relationship at the center of the case. Through interviews, archival material, and thoughtful narrative structure, the series invites viewers to reflect on how this story was shaped by online culture, media attention, and missed opportunities for intervention.
Produced by The Cinemart, the project reflects the company’s continued commitment to socially relevant storytelling and carefully crafted documentary work. Led by Julia Willoughby Nason and Michael Gasparro, The Cinemart oversaw all phases of the project—from development to post-production—bringing years of experience in nonfiction film and television to the process.
